At 8:15 this morning, all of my sixth graders gathered around my classroom library and we took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the opening of a new year in reading. I love sparking the "new year" discussion and explaining that this is our year to start fresh with new goals and challenges in reading. As the ribbons were cut, my students yelled, "This is going to be the best year ever! Happy New Year! Happy New Books!" They couldn't wait to dive in and explore new books to read!
