High Five for Friday: My Mom is a Superhero!

1. My Friday post wouldn't be the same without a "high five" mention for a snow day and/or delay. Luckily, we received 2 snow days and a 2 hour delay this week. I know... holy moly macaroni! (My husband stared at me in disbelief when I turned my pajamas inside out on Sunday night. My students told me that's what works when you pray for a snow day...and they were right, it worked! It was the day after the Super Bowl, people...)

2. Meeting with college friends at The Cheesecake Factory! It felt so darn good to catch up, swap stories about our lives, and share laughs... all over sangria! The best therapy!

3. Receiving a surprise goody bag from my mom. My husband drove my brother home from work the other night because he lost his keys (they work together). As my husband stopped-in to say hi to my parents, he noticed my mom packing a bag of goodies to take home to me. I was so surprised when he walked in the door and said, "your mom packed you a bag of stuff. I have no idea what's in here, but it's heavy!" I was expecting mail, but it was filled with goodies for snacks, stuff to make dinner with, and my favorite hand soap. The biggest smile was immediately plastered on my face and my heart melted. I have the best mom...and did I mention she's a superhero too? :-)

4. Ok, I'm not done about my mom yet. After celebrating her birthday last Saturday night, she sent us (me, my 3 siblings and our significant others) home with Valentine treat bags because she knew she wouldn't see all of us until afterwards. Yeah, you guessed it: my heart melted. She's a superhero, I tell ya! She thinks of everything and SHE ROCKS! I love you, mom!

5. Sharing the Olympics with my students. The beauty of teaching sixth grade social studies is teaching about ancient civilizations. Ancient Greeks=Olympics. Perfect connection for today! We spent the afternoon watching fun videos about the history of the Olympics and various NBC video clips about the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia. (FYI: NBC has awesome videos on their website!) The kids were so excited! We all couldn't wait to get home to watch the opening ceremonies tonight. I didn't think I'd be home in time to watch, but I turned on the TV just in time to see the USA team march in. So cool!!! I absolutely loved the Ralph Lauren sweaters!
